After many roadblocks, things are finally going right for Lloyd and Harry. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are confirmed to reunite for the long-awaited Dumb and Dumber sequel, "Dumber and Dumber To." Just over one week after New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. dropped the comedy, Universal Pictures and Red Granite Pictures have come aboard to revive the project.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly will return to direct the sequel. The sibling duo wrote on Twitter:
IT"S OFFICIAL: Dumb and Dumber To is going into production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!! #DumbTo P pic.twitter.com/uS8UIXSRj4
— Farrelly Brothers (@farrellybros) June 18, 2013
About a year ago, Carrey's reps confirmed with us that he left the then proposed sequel due to a conflict with the studios, New Line and Warner Bros. MTV News spoke with Carrey's co-star from the original, Jeff Daniels, later that day and he confirmed, "No, nobody's doing it without Jim."
"Entertainment Tonight" previously reported that "According to sources, Carrey grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Bros., who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project."
Warner had long been back-and-forth about the film, but Carrey still had high hopes for the project, along with Daniels and the Farrelly brothers.
'Dumb and Dumber' was a huge hit, grossing more than $240 million worldwide. In 2003, New Line Cinema produced a low-budget prequel film called 'Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,' which featured different actors as Lloyd and Harry and bombed at the box office.
The sequel film is expected to focus on another legendary road trip. Sources say the film will likely film this summer for release next year, which would coincide with the 20th anniversary release of the original. The production urgency is due to scheduling: Daniels needs to do it before returning to HBO’s The Newsroom as Aaron Sorkin and Carrey has Relativity to film.
Red Granite is stepping up to finance the $35 million budget film and sell foreign territories.

Depending on where your opinion of "Man of Steel" lies, you may have spent the past week singing the praises of Zack Snyder for being the director to finally get Superman right. His take on the last son of Krypton is certainly worth discussing, but another one of his movies, his first, deserves a second look this week for an entirely unrelated reason.
In light of Brad Pitt's "World War Z" hitting screens this week, it's worth remembering that Snyder's 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead" is the best modern zombie movie.
It was nearly ten years ago that Snyder and his screenwriter, future "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn, took the set-up from George Romero's classic and adapted it lovingly into a modern setting without losing the spirit that made the original film so unique for its time. What the dozens of zombie movies that came in the wake of Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" and the movie that started the modern era of the undead, "28 Days Later," forgot was the most important part of any zombie movie is the humanity. It's built into the premise that the infection forcefully takes away what separates us from the hordes. That is a heartbreaking idea, and yet it's so easily forgotten to fit in more kills.
To work with that concept, a filmmaker needs to put human beings on screen, and that's why the Snyder's choice of leading lady makes all the difference with "Dawn of the Dead." Sarah Polley was about as far from an obvious choice to lead a zombie apocalypse movie as possible, but it's her work as Ana that brings all of this together. She plays it straight, and the result speaks for itself.
The greatness of "Dawn of the Dead" stems directly from that humanity, and it's use of humor to show how life continues even in the bleakest of circumstances is one of the best ways of honoring the Romero legacy. The script from Gunn is whip smart, terrifying and hilarious simultaneously, while examining how real-life people would handle the situation with all of their strengths, weaknesses, and hypocrisies.
Whether you have never seen Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" before or are just in the mood to take another bite thanks to Brad Pitt and "World War Z," you won't regret checking it out, especially considering that it's only $2.99 to rent on Amazon.

The latest trailer for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" finally gives us a look at footage from the sequel, and just about all we can say is "Super duper!"
We're also getting our first taste of the continuing story of the Channel 4 News Teams. Ron, Brick, Champ, and Brian are getting back together to form a 24-hour news network. Also, it's the 80s. So there's that too.
For a sequel whose original is held in such high regard, especially within the fraternities on college campuses, "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" certainly looks like it's living up to the high expectations.
We're going to have to wait a while, though, until we get to see the whole thing. "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" hits theaters on December 20.
A new poster for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" debuted online today, ahead of a brand new trailer, which will drop tomorrow.

Whether you like it or not, it looks like a sequel to "Prometheus" is coming our way. At least, that's what a new article from Variety suggests.
Word of Fox and the producers' intention to quickly follow-up the $400 worldwide hit spread just months after the original film debuted, with THR naming 2014 or 2015 as potential targets.
Even though those date now seem unrealistic considering how long it takes a project like "Prometheus" to get going, there is progress. Variety is reporting that Jack Palgen, who wrote "Dark Knight" cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut, "Transcendence," which stars Johnny Depp, has been hired to write the script.
A writer announcement has been expected for some time, ever since Damon Lindelof announced that he would not be returning to write the screenplay for the sequel. That announcement resulted in a gossipy story about how producers were pissed because Lindelof wrote them into a corner. If you'd like to know more about that hearsay, you can read Lindelof's official response to it over at /Film.
Both Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are expected to return as the ever-curious Elizabeth Shaw and the recently decapitated David-8. The two reportedly had sequel agreements in their original contracts, so we can expect further adventures of the lady scientist and her sometimes evil robot head. That's a winning combination!
We'll keep you posted as this story develops, but until then what would you like to see from a "Prometheus" sequel? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!
Any movie that features vampires and wants to be taken seriously, as a rule, will face comparisons to the throngs of blooding sucking fiction and films that came in the wake of "Twilight."
For Gemma Arterton, whose new movie "Byzantium" is about a vampire mother-daughter duo from acclaimed director Neil Jordan, there are perks and drawbacks to belonging to that trendy club, as she explained to MTV News' Josh Horowitz during a recent visit to the newsroom.
"Actually, it's kind of a double-edged sword because they're marketing it as a vampire movie because there is a market for that," Arterton said. "It's much more human in a way. It's actually about mother and daughter and what it's like to be 200 years-old with your mother or daughter. It's much more of a traditional vampire story in many senses."
Arterton went on to say that there have been some movies about vampires that have broken through to the more serious side of filmmaking, and she cited on specific example that she hopes "Byzantium" will follow.
"I think the vampire genre has been a bit skewed over the last few years," she said. "There have been anomalies along the way like 'Let the Right One In.' I think we've lost the sense of a traditional vampire story. I think this really does go back to that."
"Byzantium," starring Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan, opens next week in limited release.

Ever since "Veronica Mars" took to Kickstarter to get their movie going, there has been a very loud and confusing debate (mostly over Twitter) about whether all of this was okay. It only got worse with Zach Braff, who was a polarizing figure even before he decided to make his movie "his way," so it might interest those who aren't utterly exhausted by the conversation that an even more controversial figure has thrown his many hats into the ring.
James Franco just kicked off an indiegogo campaign to bring the three short stories featured in his first book, "Palo Alto," to the big screen. The actor has hand selected three of his favorite NYU filmmakers to each take on one of the stories. Franco put in money himself, but he needs an additional $500,000 to completely fund the project.
But before you start trying to fit your screed about how wrong this is into 140 characters, you might want to read the next part.
As Franco explains in the video above, all of the proceeds from the "Palo Alto" project will go to Project Elysium, a charity that has nothing to do with Matt Damon movies and everything to do with connecting sick children with the arts.
So how does the charitable slant of Franco's indiegogo campaign affect your opinion of the actor's crowd-funding? Does knowing that the proceeds will go to charity make you any more likely to donate? How does this compare to something like Braff's movie?

Disney Animation has seen somewhat of a return to form after finding massive success with "Tangled" and "Wreck-It Ralph" (and without having to slap a Pixar logo in front of the movie). Now the studio is once again going back to the fairy tale well for their latest effort, the icy adventure "Frozen," starring Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel.
"Frozen" tells the story of two sisters. Anna (Bell) must find her sister Elsa (Menzel) in order to free the world from an eternal winter.
Anna is joined on her journey by a snowman, that you can see in the preview below, and a man named Kristoff, played by "Glee's" Jonathan Groff.

For years, Vin Diesel has been struggling to get another movie made about the character originally from "Pitch Black," who was then featured in his own spin-off, "The Chronicles of Riddick." When the "Fast & Furious" star got his third sci-fi thriller off the ground, things were largely quiet on the "Riddick" front for a long time.
In the past few months, Diesel has slowly pulled the curtain back on his R-rated personal project that also stars Karl Urban and future "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Dave Bautista. The first preview and now the newly release international trailer seem to promise a kick-ass sci-fi adventure that looks to be as badass as Diesel has been promising all along.

Now that "Star Trek Into Darkness" is finally out in the universe, director J. J. Abrams can finally focus on a different universe all together: the Star Wars universe. Last week, Schmoes Know released the highly-sought after potential plot synopsis for "Star Wars VII" that was apparently intercepted from Bad Robot Productions. "Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy," states the alleged plot synopsis. "Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side."
This, of course, alludes to both Jaina Solo and Jacen Solo being the focus of the new trilogy; two characters made popular by the Star Wars Expanded Universe. While this information makes heaps of sense, we can't help but wonder how accurate these reports really are. We also can't help but wonder which minor characters from the original trilogy will be making the leap over to the new. Take Garindan for example, the Kubaz spy who sells out Skywalker and the gang in "A New Hope."
Who?
Often considered the greatest spy in Mos Eisley, Garindan was born on the planet Kubindi where he was forced to live underground due to the massive amounts of radiation caused by erratic weather patterns. Hence the dark goggles and hooded cloak. Also known as Long-Snoot, Garindan's name translates to Blessed One," "Burnt wood," "dust from a windstorm," "ugly," and "toast" in five separate languages.
Not much is known about this infamous informant other than the fact that he is extremely wealthy as a direct result of hiring his skills out to the highest bidder; usually Jabba the Hutt or the Galactic Empire. In the beginning of "A New Hope," Garindan can be seen helping Imperial forces locate C-3PO and R2-D2 boarding the Millennium Falcon on Docking Bay 94.
Why?
Although Garindan only appears in "A New Hope" for literally 5 seconds, he still plays a very crucial role in the battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. If it weren't for him, the Imperial forces on Tatooine would have never found the droids that they were looking for. Also, it's fairly certain to say that Luke Skywalker may or may not have a small score to settle with this Kubaz criminal.
How?
Being a spy of such high accord, Garindan could potentially pop up anywhere within the oncoming "Star Wars" trilogy. Perhaps we could even get a glimpse of his bounty hunter cousin, Udin. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, the Rebellion actually interrogates Garindan on the whereabouts of his bounty hunting family member. Plus, judging by the supposed leaked plot synopsis for "Star Wars VII," it seems like Expanded Universe material isn't entirely out of the question.
The first trailer for "Kick-Ass 2" let us know that not only are our favorite heroes and villains from the first movie making their triumphant return for a follow-up, but we also learned that they're bringing friends. But every group of super villains needs a lair to hangout in and host epic showdowns with heroes. That's exactly what MTV News went to see when we headed to the London set of "Kick-Ass 2."
Josh Wigler sneaked into the headquarters of the villain formerly known as "Red mist" — and now known as something much more NSFW — to see how the final showdown would go down.
But the new movie won't be all butt kicking. MTV News spoke with some of the stars to see how things have changed since the first "Kick-Ass."
Chloe Grace Moretz filled us in on how we'll see the characters behind Kick-Ass and Hit Girl grow in the sequel. "You see this new evolution of Mindy Macready and Dave Lizewski, and you see this amazing relationship that they get together with," Moretz said. "It's a beautiful story. There's even more heart to it than there was in the last one."
"Kick-Ass 2" opens in theaters on August 16.
We understand that there's a new baby and an album on the way this week, but the trailer for "The Wolf of Wall Street" is the best Kanye West-related thing this week.
The first preview for Martin Scorsese's trip back to the decadence of 90s Wall Street premiered online in the wee hours of the morning, and it's everything we hope for from a pairing of the legendary director and current favorite collaborator, Leonardo DiCaprio.
The trailer takes a look at the insanity — and little person throwing — that went down before everything fell apart.
Apart from the promising premise and outrageous tone of the preview, "The Wolf of Wall Street" also brings together two actor who are in the middle of the career high-points. Seeing DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey on-screen together may end up being one of the treasures of 2013 at the movies.
"The Wolf of Wall Street" opens in theaters on November 15.
A new trailer for the trippy, quiet Ryan Gosling crime drama "Only God Forgives" just premiered online. In it, you'll be able to hear almost all of Gosling's lines from the movie.

The trailers for "This Is The End" don't really downplay the fact that a lot of celebrities show up on screen as skewed versions of themselves. But the trailers don't show you every celebrity that shows up to hang out with Seth, James, Jonah, Danny, and Jay.
Co-writer/co-diector Seth Rogen stopped by MTV News' Josh Horowitz's office to talk about one of the biggest surprises of his apocalypse comedy, "This Is The End."
You should know that the video discusses SPOILERS pretty much exclusively, so you should not watch the interview unless you've seen "This Is The End," which is something you should definitely do.

On June 14th, the world will be saved...again. "Man of Steel," the latest superhero film by Zack Snyder, director of "Watchmen" and "300," features a new face to star as Superman: 30-year-old Henry Cavill. With slicked-back hair and thick rimmed glasses, you might not even realize he is Superman, or better yet, British.
Along with being made of steel, Cavill is best known as being one of the sexiest Brits alive. He is the first British actor to score the coveted role of Superman, the ultimate American hero. If a Brit can make it as an American hero, which American actors and actresses would make the cut as British heroes?
We've decided to cast some familiar Americans as British hero roles, along with the villains he or she would face. Check out our picks after the jump!
Meryl Streep as J.K. Rowling
A world-renowned author must be played by a world-renowned actress. Streep is capable of any character ranging from...well...anything. Streep's experience playing British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, one of the most powerful women in politics, has prepared her for this pivotal British role. With the accent already rehearsed, Streep as J.K. Rowling, even with the age difference, could be a magical pairing.
Villain: People who don't read
Big Time Rush as One Direction
It's like you can already hear the sweet, sweet harmony of three or more boys singing together at one time from a mile away. Big Time Rush as One Direction gives you the same youthful energy, screaming girls and amount of hair product — without the accents. But, wait! Big Time Rush has only four members compared to the five member ensemble of One Direction. Don't you worry, they can search YouTube and find another band mate in a couple minutes.
Villain: The Wanted, growing up
Melissa McCarthy as Adele
Both can make a crowd cry: one with her raspy, melodic singing voice and the other with jokes about food poisoning and stealing puppies. (Adele is the one with the voice, by the way.) McCarthy, although she would need a voice track to match the vocal abilities of Adele, would definitely not need the laugh track. The British charm and easygoing nature of Adele parallels McCarthy’s quick and natural sense of humor. Adele and McCarthy are crowd favorites, whether it's topping the album or movie charts.
Villain: Humorless people
Ryan Gosling as David Beckham
America's hottest actor playing England's hottest dad. Any objections? Anyone? Anyone at all? Gosling, athletic and built, would be perfect as soccer standout David Beckham, both on and off the field. Gosling can play a family man. Gosling can play sports. Gosling can be mine. To garner even more attention at the box office, the film idea could be tweaked a bit to have both Ryan Gosling and David Beckham starring in a movie together, maybe playing with puppies all/or most of the time. Just trying to give the people what they want, right?
Villain: Clothing
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield as Prince William & Princess Kate
College sweethearts everywhere have hope after following the royal romance of William and Kate through marriage and now a pregnancy. It's difficult to cast an American celebrity couple that shares the same likeability, manners, and lasting power as Will and Kate, but Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are the first that come to mind. (They're at least half-American.) He is Spider-Man; she is a scientist. Will is a prince; Kate is a princess. There's a distinct connection between royalty and being superhero that would only boost the believability of Garfield and Stone as the adorable royal couple.
Villain: Long term relationships, paparazzi
By Amelia Mularz
"Dahling, don't forget the opera glasses, and do put on a tie. If we're going to watch Will Smith battle zombie ex-presidents for control of the White House, we need to look quite fetching."
This is the future, according to George Lucas. No, not a zombie apocalypse led by Herbert Hoover and Richard Nixon (though we'd love to see what that'd look like), but a future where going to the movies will be comparable to going to the opera or a Broadway show. It's a dark, dark future where a ticket to the big summer blockbuster could cost you $50, $100, maybe even $150.
Says who? Says George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, that's who. During a panel discussion at USC's School for Cinematic Arts earlier this week, both filmmakers predicted a meltdown in the movie industry...an IMPLOSION even. They say the trend toward big budget flicks like "Iron Man" will eventually squeeze out smaller, more narrative-driven features. We'll have to watch those at home, and going to the movies will be reserved for action and special effects. There will be fewer, larger theaters with luxe amenities and inflated admission. The hypothetical Will Smith presidential zombie flick might play for a year, just like a Broadway musical.
What Spielberg and Lucas failed to mention, is how this will affect our love lives. Dinner and a movie? Not at that price. Making out in the back row? May as well just get a hotel room. A night at the movies will become a landmark experience in a relationship. I think it's pretty serious. He's taking me to see a Vin Diesel film.
To kick off our epic MTV First with the cast of "Man of Steel," Superman himself, Henry Cavill, introduced a never-before-seen clip from the movie, which is out in theaters now.
In the clip, Superman battles with Zod cohort Faora, who has a few things to teach the superhero about morality and evolution. We also get a glimpse at the how the superhuman action looks in the movie: fast and furious.
Check out the clip above and be sure to watch our entire 30-minute interview with the cast of "Man of Steel."
The cast of the newest adventure of Superman, "Man of Steel," will be stopping by MTV and MTV.com to debut a never-before-scene clip from the film starting tonight at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.
