For the spoiler hyper-phobic, you need not worry. As this column is called "Five Reasons to See," it was written with the assumption that anyone reading has not seen it and therefore needs some kind of convincing. If you'd like to learn more about the twists in "Star Trek Into Darkness," we'd recommend checking out this story.

The critical reception for "Star Trek Into Darkness" has been a complex one to say the least. There are the Trekkies, who have largely dismissed it because this isn't the "Star Trek" that they know. Then there's those who say it's mindless fun. That subgroup is then split between those who think that's a compliment and those who don't.

Regardless of which category you think you might fall into, there are good reasons to see "Star Trek Into Darkness," five to be exact.

Big Scale Sci-fi
See "Star Trek Into Darkness" on the biggest screen you can managed. (IMAX would be ideal, but make sure to sit in the back.) The movie is a spectacle in every sense of the word when it's applied to movies. The proof is right there as you watch the film, which was clearly designed to be viewed in a theater. The scale of "Star Trek Into Darkness" becomes part of the theater-going experience because of how it used the screen.

Action
J.J. Abrams can direct an action sequence. There are few people who will contest you on that point. The opening sequence of the film and a short jaunt throw open space rank among the best stuff Abrams has ever shot. He understands the architecture of action and can mount a thrilling set piece pretty much out of thin air.

The Enterprise Crew
If there's one thing that Abrams definitely got right with his "Star Trek," it's the new crew of the Enterprise. Each actor has to step into a role that not only has been performed before, but has reached a level of pop culture significance. And yet each member of the crew inhabits the role like it was always his or hers.

Benedict Cumberbatch
When it comes to John Harrison, it isn't the twist that people will be talking about. (The real identity is surprisingly insignificant in the grand scheme of things.) What people should pay closer attention to is the man behind the twist. Cumberbatch turns in one hell of a performance, doing a ton without a lot of time to do it in. He's by far the most compelling character in the movie, and it should hopefully prove to others that we need much more Cumberbatch.

For Fun
At some point in the recent past, "fun" became the word used to damn something with faint praise. Plot holes are another issue and shouldn't be overlooked in the name of enjoyment, but part of the reason that "Into Darkness" is able to move at such a quick pace is that it gets sloppy with the plot and motivation. To slow down to explain the story, as is, would mean sacrificing the pace. It's not a perfect situation, but it's worth noting.

Disney character Merida from the movie "Brave" got a makeover this week, and loads of parents weren't having it. The animated heroine got all gussied up in preparation for her induction into the Disney Princess Collection (who knew such pomp and circumstance existed?). Disney released a rendering and it became evident that little Merida had received a sassy new look.

Parents complained that she had a deeper neckline, fuller hips, lipstick and voluptuously teased hair. There was even talk of a 'come hither' look. As word spread more and more parents weighed in and agreed that yes, Merida was looking damn fine. Before we could even wipe the drool from our chins, our nation had plummeted into some serious sexy cartoon character terrain.

Of course, this comes right on the heels of the recent Candy Land board rejiggering. Queen Frostine got fishnets and frumpy ol' Gramma Nut allegedly got a boob job (emphasis on allegedly).

Back in the day, board games featured hungry hippos and an animated movie meant watching Winnie the Pooh futz around with his honey pot. Yes, Pooh might've been borderline depressive with low self-esteem, but we could wrap our minds around his appearance (just not our arms around his waist).

Sure, Betty Boop used to wear a garter belt, and Thelma from "Scooby Doo" was all about her school girl skirt, but for every Betty there was a plump robotic maid named Rosey, and for every Thelma there was a gangly Olive Oyl.

Modern animation has gone off the rails with its sexy factor, especially when it comes to these Disney princesses. Ariel…seriously?! Smoking hot. Princess Jasmine in a tube top? Wowza. And what about the guys? What woman in her early 30s can honestly say she didn't learn to French kiss on a Prince Eric doll?

So what's the solution? Pockmarks and rosacea. If Merida is a teenager, give her some acne scars across her cheeks. Bestow Jasmine with the freshman 15, and Pocahontas with a bad case of pubescent menstrual cramps. Let Cinderella experiment with glitter makeup and lipstick that's three shades too dark, so that one day she'll look back at pictures from her youth and realize she was unknowingly made up like a chola for every single school dance.

Yes, lets create some cartoon characters that girls can truly relate to.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters Friday, making it the 12th film in the "Star Trek" movie franchise. With Benedict Cumberbatch filling the "bad guy" shoes here, it seems only fair that we take a look back and rank all of the Star Trek movie villains that have graced the big screen over the past three decades. You're welcome.

11. The Whale Probe From Space - "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" (1986)
This is probably the weirdest villain on the list because, well, it's a whale-loving space monster looking to reunite with its Humpback brethren by emptying all of Earth's oceans.

10. Sybok - "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (1989)
The half-brother of Spock, Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) is pretty much a backwards Vulcan. Emotions are more important than logic to him. Here, he brainwashes everyone so he can get to the middle of space to meet God...who turns out to be an alien that crushes him to death.

9. Nero - "Star Trek" (2009)
Nero (Eric Bana) is an evil Romulan who travels back from the future seeking revenge on Spock for his wife's death. He's got this stuff called “Red Matter” that he likes to inject into planets to create black holes.

8. Ru'afo - "Star Trek: Insurrection" (1998)
Ru'afo (F. Murray Abraham) is an alien obsessed with maintaining his youth. So much so, that all the surgeries he's had makes him into Stretch Face. Plus, he wants to harvest the radiation from his home planet's rings to keep him young.

7. Shinzon - "Star Trek: Nemesis" (2002)
Praetor Shinzon (Tom Hardy) is Captain Picard's evil clone. He suffers from a weird clone blood disease, so he hunts down Picard to steal his blood for a cure. He also wants to blow up Earth for some reason.

6. Dr. Soran - "Star Trek: Generations" (1994)
Dr. Soran (Malcolm McDowell) is obsessed the heavenly ribbon of space energy called The Nexus. He's so obsessed, in fact, that he destroys solar systems just to get back inside of it.

5. The Borg Queen - "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996)
The Borg Queen (Alice Krige) is the creepy mouthpiece of the cybernetic collective known as Borg. The Enterprise travels back in time to stop her as she attempts to assimilate all of planet Earth.

4. V'Ger - "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (1979)
The V'Ger is a highly intelligent machine cloud that evolved from a century's old space probe. It's returning to Earth with the information it's collected, destroying ships and planets in the process.

3. Kruge - "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock" (1984)
Kruge (Christopher Lloyd) is a Klingon captain out to steal the Genesis, originally introduced in "Star Trek II." He's the Klingon that killed Kirk's son. They end up fighting on a volcanic planet, leaving Kruge hanging from a cliff. He refuses to be saved by Kirk. Klingons...

2. General Chang - "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (1991)
General Chang (Christopher Plummer) is the Klingon commander who frames Kirk and McCoy in an attempt to start a war between the Klingons and Federation, leaving the two men to spend most of the movie in a Klingon prison. And just so there's no confusion, Plummer plays one badass Klingon.

1. Khan - "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" (1982)
Khan Noonian Singh, aka Khan (Ricardo Montalban) is one badass mofo and the all-time best "Star Trek" villain ever. He's out for revenge on Captain Kirk for exiling him to a desolate planet. He's the one who steals the Genesis Wave that Kruge was out for in "Part III."

Please stop joy crying. There are some things to discuss first.

Yes, it's true. Some publication out there (specifically Daily Mail) has reported something to the tune of "Christopher Nolan has had informal talks with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson about directing 'Bond 24.' "

This isn't isn't coming out of left field. Nolan has filled his recent films, "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises" especially, with references to 007, and he has previously expressed interested in eventually directing a film. He told Empire, "It would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things."

But there are a few problems with this report.

The main problem right now is timing. Nolan is pretty much in full "Interstellar" mode. He has already cast his principles, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, and he's got a late 2014 release date on the books. That's a quick turnaround for an epic sci-fi adventure that leaves little time for anything else.

The Bond producers have previously stated that they would like to follow-up "Skyfall" sooner rather than later. Since "Bond 23" did outrageously well at the box office, getting the 50-year-old series back to its film-every-two-years schedule appears to be a top priority. That would put "Bond 24" on the calendar for 2014, or 2015 if they needed extra time, and "Skyfall's" director Sam Mendes already passed on the job.

So how could this possibly happen, you ask. We're going to be perfectly honest. This seems highly unlikely. For Nolan to direct the next Bond movie, Sony and MGM would have to probably wait until 2016, a full four years after "Skyfall." Considering that a hiatus that long would cool the buzz around the series and that Daniel Craig is getting older every day, it's unlikely Broccoli and Wilson would hold off on "Bond 24" just to wait for Nolan. But keep an eye on "Bond 25."

The teaser trailer for "Last Vegas" has it right when it touts that the movie is "going to be legendary." The film brings together esteemed actors Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline in a "The Hangover"-style romp set in Las Vegas.

Except, with a cast like this, "Last Vegas" could end up being significantly better than "The Hangover," despite all that movie's wonderful absurdities like hanging out with Mike Tyson's tiger or finding the wrong Doug. There's a scene in the "Last Vegas" trailer where Freeman is drunk on Vodka Red Bulls, and the result is kind of hilarious.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, "Last Vegas" also feels a lot like "Grown Ups" on crack. In that film, Adam Sandler brought together some of his closest comedian friends to star in an ensemble comedy where the biggest draw is just seeing them riff off of one another. The same can be said here, except this time is Douglas joking around with De Niro instead of Rob Schneider playing off David Spade.

"Last Vegas" is due out on November 1.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" is out in theaters, and if you haven't seen it already, go do so. (It's a ton of fun and should be seen on as big a screen as possible.)

Last week, we traveled to Las Vegas to sit down with the Wolfpack to talk "The Hangover" for one last time before the trilogy ends next week. We'll have more about that movie closer to the release date, but we took some time out of our interview to ask a few questions about Bradley Cooper's and Ed Helms' upcoming projects.

A few weeks ago, Steven Spielberg signed on to direct Cooper in an adaptation of "American Sniper," the tragic true story of Chris Kyle, whose memoir the actor's production company optioned. Cooper shared his reaction to attracting such a legendary director.

"I mean, it's insane. It's a book I read and one my production company optioned," Cooper said. "This guy, Jason Dean Hall, wrote a version of the script. [Spielberg] read it last week or two weeks ago."

The news unfortunately caught Zach Galifianakis by surprise. "Wait, wait, wait. You're doing a Steven Spielberg movie?" he asked before storming off.

Once the room had cooled down, Helms offered a quick update on his delayed "Vacation" reboot. "Yeah, we're waiting. Spielberg's going to direct that too," he said, and Galifianakis left again.

Getting back to the truth, Helms confirmed that the delay had to do with a disagreement about the appropriate rating for the movie, PG-13 versus R. "There was some dispute on what tone the movie should take, and I'm always on the side of whatever's funniest," he said. "Really, it came down to a question of, does America want to see Ed Helms naked?"

"And that answers is unequivocally, 'Oh, yeah,' " Cooper added.

Helms remains hopeful that what he calls "business considerations" will get sorted out. "There's a business behind this business. Sometimes it gets in the way of the creative process or delays the creative process. That's kind of where we're at," he said. "I hope, I really hope that it gets worked out because I love, love this 'Vacation' movie, and I can't wait to do it."

"The Hangover Part III" opens on May 23.

After years of waiting, "Star Trek Into Darkness" has finally hit theaters. The original gang's all there, along with a shady new villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Is this baddie, as is claimed, a generic nobody named John Harrison? Or is he really a certain somebody whose name rhymes with swan? Who can say? But since Cumberbatch the actor will be literally everywhere this year ("August: Osage County," "The Fifth Estate," "The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug" (and look! There he is outside my window), we've put together six fun facts you may not have known about the "Sherlock" star. Go boldly where no man has gone before and read on!

1) He was kidnapped and held at gunpoint in South Africa: And he actually talked his way out of it, much like his television counterpart Sherlock Holmes would have. "I argued my way out," he told the Daily Mail. "I said, 'If you leave me in here, it's not the lack of air, it's the small space. There's a problem with my heart and my brain.' I just tried to explain to them: 'I will die, possibly have a fit, and it will be a problem for you. I will be a dead Englishman in your car. Not good.'"

2) He can do a mean Alan Rickman impersonation: By which, we obviously mean excellent. His David Tennant is not bad either. Check out the video below:

3) He's quite the smarty pants, but like all intelligent men, he has his vices: "I did sort of blow my GCSEs out of the water," he told Metro recently. "I couldn't believe it and neither could my teachers. And then there was a lot of pressure on me to achieve an Oxbridge level of brilliance at A-levels. But then adolescence came late and I discovered girls, pot and all sorts of other things, so I got a bit lazy."

6) He finds the fact that he's a sex symbol "hysterically funny": "I hate the fact that I'm a sex symbol," he joked to the Radio Times. "God damn my beauty and success. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet, but there are going to be two movies about "The ABCs of Death." A sequel to the creepy anthology is on the way, and filmmakers are promising a leaner and meaner set of horrors. You remember how this works: each director creates a short based on a theme related to a letter of the alphabet, and of course, death. Alex de la Iglesia ("The Last Circus"), Rodney Ascher ("Room 237"), and Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton have already signed on to direct, plus there will be another competition to find the 26th filmmaker. The sequel is planned for a 2014 release, so you have plenty of time to break out your camera and get to work.

We're Officially Getting a 'Gremlins' Reboot
We brought you news earlier in the year about a potential reboot of Joe Dante's horror classic "Gremlins," and it looks like midnight is approaching faster than we thought. Warner Bros. is moving ahead with their remake of the 1984 film about a boy who receives an adorable, exotic pet for Christmas, but quickly finds out that the breed transforms into a destructive creature if not fed and cared for strictly by the rules. "Dark Shadows" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" writer Seth Grahame-Smith will be co-producing the project, and the studio is currently searching for a director. Does this remake stand a chance for success, or will it become a total CG monstrosity?

'From Dusk Till Dawn' Will Become a Robert Rodriguez TV Series
The vampires of Robert Rodriguez's From "Dusk till Dawn" will live on in a television adaptation. The director is getting his own TV network, El Ray, and his 1996 cult flick—starring and written by Quentin Tarantino— is one of two shows ready for the small-screen treatment. We'd love to see Salma Hayek perform her sexy snake dance again or George Clooney, Tarantino, and Juliette Lewis destroying vamps once more, but the chances of that happening are less than zero. The good news is that Rodriguez is still involved and will surely give the fans what they want: sex, gore, and action. Are you excited to see what the filmmaker can get away with on network TV?

"Saw II" Director to Enter the World of Devil-Worshiping Cult
"Saw II," "Repo! the Genetic Opera," and "The Devil's Carnival" filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman will be directing the horror-thriller "Sacrilege." When a family reunites with their kidnapped and brainwashed son after three years apart, their lives are turned upside down when they realize the boy's time with a devil-worshiping cult has created a monster. No cast has been announced yet. Bousman called the script one of the most "intense and macabre" he's ever read, which is a big deal considering this is the same guy who directed three "Saw" movies.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" opens in US theaters today.

Last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live, J.J. Abrams admitted that he and Michael Arndt have hit a bit of a wall while writing "Star Wars: Episode VII." The revelation of writer's block led Jimmy to suggest that Abrams listen to some helpful members of the audience that had ideas for what should be included in the next "Star Wars."

The general consensus was that Chewbacca and Princess Leia need to get it on, and if they aren't getting it on, the movie should only consist of Lando making sweet love in the galaxy.

The suggestions, of course, came from fanboys planted in the audience, Billy Dee Williams, and a red-faced William Shatner. Here's to hoping that Abrams actually listens to the fans and gives them what they want.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" opens in theaters today, May 16.

The "Fast & Furious 6" crew sat down with MTV News last night for an MTV First, complete with a 30-minute interview and an exclusive clip. If you weren't able to catch the goodness of MTV and MTV.com, it's your lucky day. The entire show and clip are available on demand right now.

In the never-before-seen clip from the six movie of the "Fast & Furious" franchise, we see Ludacris, reprising his role from earlier in the series, acting ask a scout for the team's latest operation.

Things are going smoothly until a cable is strung across oncoming traffic, laying waste to two approaching vehicles, but revealing the nasty surprise hidden inside. It's a tank.

"Fast & Furious 6" opens in theaters on May 24.

Here's a great way to start off your Thursday. The first NSFW trailer for "V/H/S/2," the sequel to the found footage anthology that scared the crap out of us last year, just dropped over at Yahoo! Movies. What the preview emphasizes—aside from how freaking scary this thing looks—is the serious talent they've lined up to direct segments for the second go around.

For the sequel, you'll see found footage short films from the directors of "The Raid: Redemption," upcoming horror flick "You're Next," "Hobo With a Shotgun," and "The Blair Witch Project."

The consensus coming out of Sundance this year was that "V/H/S/2," then called "S-V/H/S," is much scarier than its predecessor and uses the found footage format to greater effect.

We'll find out when "V/H/S/2" hits VOD on June 6 and theaters on July 12.

Six films into any film series, the premise of the movies is going to seem a little stale. Even with a franchise as fun as "Fast & Furious," you can't help but start to think, "Cars? What else you got?"

The answer: How about a tank?

How has it been looking back on "Texas Chainsaw 3D"?
It's great. I had a really fun time shooting it, so it's sort of cool every time I do a movie, it's like a documentation. You remember where you were doing each scenes. "Oh my god, it was so hot that day." It's kind of cool to see a movie that you haven't seen in a long time and reflect on that stuff.

Were you able to participate in any of the Blu-ray commentaries?
I did not actually. I would have loved to have, but nobody mentioned it to me. I know that there are commentaries by Dan Yeager and the director. Dan Yeager plays Leatherface. I haven't listened to them yet, but I'm looking forward to hearing them and hearing what they have to say. It would have been cool to do a commentary. I have a lot to say. Maybe we'll have to re-release the DVD with my commentary.

Can a movie you starred in scare you at all?
I definitely am able to be scared by things. When we watch the movie, they had a screening before it came out for some of the cast and agents and people like that. We were all jumping out of our seats and screaming. I'm really easily affected by horror films. I have pretty strong reactions to them. This was exception. There are moments when you jump out of your seat. There are things you don't expect. Even in your mind, it could be very different the way something is shot and the way it ends up. There were definitely surprises.

To that effect, is it odd seeing yourself stab someone with a pitch fork?
Yeah, it's odd seeing yourself on screen at all. Seeing yourself say these crazy things, you don't see yourself like that. So that's interesting.

When did you find out about your character's big twist?
I think I was pretty aware of that twist from the beginning. I knew where the story was going. I really like that. It's cool to be a female character who gets to be really strong and tough. She has this awakening where she becomes a different kind of person. Also, to be an actress and act crazy is really fun for me, to be able to be acting like you'd never be able to act in your real life and scream and freak out. It's an interesting test for an actor.

After scripting the biggest hit of 2013, "Iron Man 3," it's no surprise that screenwriter Drew Pearce has moved on to a similarly big project. It's being reported that Pearce has signed on to pen the screenplay for the upcoming "Mission: Impossible" sequel "Mi5."

The Hollywood Reporter has the news, confirming that Paramount Pictures has hired Pearce to write the script. Tom Cruise is expected to both produce and star in the film once he's done with his next feature, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

By the time Cruise is done with Guy Ritchie's "U.N.C.L.E.," "Mi5" should be ready for a fall filming start date. Story details of the next "Mission: Impossible" movie are being kept a secret, and it's unclear of Jeremy Renner will be reprising his role as William Brandt. Christopher McQuarrie is still in discussions to the direct the film, though he hasn't been locked down yet.

"We've been talking about it, yes," McQuarrie recently told MTV News. "We're figuring it out right now. I'm looking at pictures from all over the world and just deciding what invites action."

In addition to "Mission: Impossible 5," Pearce is also said to be working on an original spec script that will be his directorial debut. He also helped develop "Pacific Rim" and is said to be attached to write "Sherlock Holmes 3."

A short teaser for "Riddick," the third film staring Vin Diesel as the night vision badass from title, debuted earlier this year, but now the very first trailer has premiered on YouTube.

The trailer clues us in on the story this time around. A group of bounty hunters have shown up to collect Riddick's head, but he doesn't like that. The tone seems closer to "Pitch Black," especially when it comes to the host of monsters that show up in the trailer.

Official synopsis:

In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

"Riddick" opens in theaters on September 6.

Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal could soon be headed "Into The Woods." Rob Marshall has long been developing an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's classic musical for a while now, and it seems like he's coming ever closer to finalizing his cast.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Gyllenhaal and Pine are in talks to play two key roles in the upcoming feature film. The site's sources say the two men would portray Rapunzel's Prince and Cinderella's Prince, two brothers who are concerned as much with themselves as they are with their significant others. They also get to sing the hilarious song "Agony," so that's something to look forward to if Pine and Gyllenhaal do take the roles.

Marshall has already found two actors to join the project. Meryl Streep will play the Witch while Johnny Depp will play "Into The Woods'" version of the big bad wolf. It seems as though this movie could end up having Marshall's most A-list cast for a musical yet, as he also is the man responsible for bringing "Chicago" and "Nine" to the big screen. Marshall previously directed "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which explains the Depp connection.

The cast should be squared away in the next few months, as THR reports that Marshall is planning a fall filming start date. According to the site, "Into The Woods" should continue to attract more big name stars. So far a release date has not been announced.
